Power take-offs for HGVs
Many HGVs from well-known brands can be easily retrofitted with a truck power take-off. For example:
- Mercedes-Benz
- MAN
- Renault
- Volvo
- Iveco
- Scania
- etc.
If a compatible hydraulic pump is connected to the truck PTO, it can be used to operate a hydraulic system. Gear pumps are often used for this application.Hydraulic gear pumps are efficient and robust. Power take-offs can be activated manually by means of a cable and lever, pneumatically or electronically with a PTO switch. The pump flow rate can be varied by changing the engine speed or a gear ratio in the PTO. The hydraulic system can then be used to drive a winch, raise a dump truck bed, power a loader crane, extend and retract a slidebed or operate a snowplough. These are just a few examples of the many uses for hydraulic systems on trucks, tractors, vehicle transporters and self-propelled machinery.
Compatible power take-offs for many vehicle models
We know that having the right power take-off for your vehicle is vital to ensure that it works properly. As well as differences between truck manufacturers, different vehicle models from the same manufacturer can also be fitted with different types of gearboxes. The retrofitted power take-off must be a precise mechanical match for the individual vehicle gearbox. In addition, the PTO gearing must also meet the speed and torque in Nm requirements specified for the connected hydraulic pump. If a new power take-off is replacing an existing and defective power take-off, care must be taken when purchasing the replacement power take-off to ensure that it has the correct output capabilities, speed, and direction of rotation. Some hydraulic pumps - such as gear pumps - may only be operated in one direction: clockwise or anti-clockwise. You can find the direction of rotation in the pump’s technical specifications.

ProLux can supply a compatible power take-off for retrofitting for almost all types of trucks and HGVs. For popular HGVs, such as a Mercedes-Benz (Actros etc.) fitted with the ZFS5-42 5.72 gearbox, we have the correct power take-offs available in the ProLux online shop. Looking for a power take-off for your commercial vehicle? When enquiring, please specify the make and model of your vehicle as well as the year of construction and the exact type of gearbox. The technical data for your specific gearbox can be found on the rating plate on the gearbox itself. We will submit you a non-binding offer at short notice and, as always, at a competitive price!
Power take off
(12)A power take-off (also called a PTO) can be installed on trucks and other vehicles and is a mechanical power source for auxiliary devices. The power take-off is mounted to a PTO opening on the vehicle's gearbox. The mechanical drive energy generated can be used, for example, to operate hydraulic pumps or drive shafts (PTO shafts) for other equipment. Truck power take-offs therefore work by transferring power from the vehicle engine to a secondary piece of equipment.
