The following information must be legibly (!) displayed on the safety labels on the ratchet straps:

• Lashing capacity LC = indicates the tensile force the strap can withstand at the weakest point, given in daN.
• Standard Hand Force SHF = is the force that an average user can apply by hand to the tensioning ratchet.
• Standard Tension Force STF = the minimum pre-tensioning force that can be achieved in the strap by using the ratchet.
• Manufacturer, date of manufacture, strap length, strap material, elongation of the strap in %
• Please note: for lashing only! Do not use for lifting!

Widths and load-bearing capacity of ratchet straps

One-piece or two-piece ratchet straps are available in strap widths of 25, 35, 50 and 75 mm. The load-bearing capacity of a ratchet strap is determined by its width. The load capacities of ratchet straps start at 250 daN (in a straight pull) and end at 5,000 daN for heavy-duty tie-down straps for trucks (daN stands for deca-Newton, which corresponds to approx. 1 kg). The maximum tensile force in LC (lashing capacity) is given in daN. This value must not be exceeded.

In the range of tie-down straps for trucks, the very heavy load weights place more extreme requirements on load restraint. Our truck tie-down straps or load binders are specially developed for this purpose. Our load binders, for example, can achieve significantly higher load-bearing capacities than truck lashing straps, with values of up to 16,000 daN in straight pull being possible.

When must tie-down straps be tested and, if necessary, discarded?

Ratchet straps must be inspected once a year by an expert or qualified person. This person must be professionally trained and have appropriate knowledge in the field of load restraint, including the UVV regulations and the relevant DIN standards.

When a ratchet strap is discarded is not based on a specific age or an "expiry date” but is determined solely by mechanical wear.
