When are jump starters used and what is the right way to use them?
When it comes to older cars or vehicles, the age of the battery is one of the main reasons that a car won't start up anymore. But modern vehicles are also frequently affected by discharged car batteries as a result of their complex electronic equipment. Using the powerful installed battery and two integrated jumper cables, the correct way to jump-start a car is as follows:
- Connect the positive terminals: Connect the red cable on the booster or power bank to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
- Connect the negative terminal with the earthing point: Connect the black cable (always) to a stable, unpainted metal part in the engine compartment of the receiving vehicle.
- Now switch on the booster. On our Noco jump starters, the ! must be activated for totally discharged batteries.
- Switch on electrical consumers: On the receiving vehicle, also switch on electrical consumers such as fan or rear windshield heating. This prevents harmful voltage peaks.
- Start the engine in the receiving vehicle and let the engine run.
- Now disconnect the jumper cables that were connected in the receiving vehicle: First the black cable, then the red cable.
