WHY DO YOU NEED AN ADAPTER FOR TRAILERS
A socket is installed on a car with a trailer coupling, which is used to transmit power to the trailer. This connection ensures that the trailer's lighting system works in parallel with the vehicle's lights. Older cars are often equipped with a 7-pin socket, while newer vehicles have a 13-pin socket. The situation is similar for car trailer plugs. With our mini short adapters, you always have the appropriate connection for your trailer or towing vehicle at hand.
WHICH CAR TRAILER ADAPTERS ARE AVAILABLE
There are two versions of car trailer adapters. One is the 7-pin electrical trailer plug and the other is the 7-pin socket. Both have seven pins or seven sockets. The design and pin assignment are standardised in accordance with ISO 1724. A moulding on the cover of the socket serves as a safeguard against unintentional disconnection. The spring force of the cover thus blocks the plug or its seat in the socket. However, the 7-pin plug connection is rarely used any more. The 7-pin car trailer adapter is also only approved for trailers with a gross vehicle weight of less than 750 kg.
The second type is the 13-pin plug connection according to DIN ISO 11446, where the plug and socket each have 13 pins or sockets. The design and assignment of the contacts is also regulated by ISO 11446. There are two technical differences to the 7-pin electrical trailer plug connection. The additional connections can now also operate the rear fog light and the reversing light. Their function is required by law for trailers over 750 kg gross vehicle weight. There is also improved protection against unintentional disconnection of the plug connection. The 13-pin electrical trailer adapter is rotated 90 degrees in the socket. The spring-loaded cover then ensures that it cannot be turned back.
We also have a standard trailer short adapter especially for trucks (24 volt). This trailer adapter connects the 15-pin socket on the lorry with two 7-pin electrical trailer plugs.
TRAILER ADAPTER 7 TO 13-PIN
This short adapter connects the 7-pin socket on the car to the 13-pin plug on the trailer. The short adapter 7 is usually required for older cars. Our adapter 7 is made of sturdy, impact-resistant black plastic. The adapter has the necessary fuses on both sides to prevent the plug from coming loose.
ELECTRICAL TRAILER ADAPTER 13 TO 7-PIN
Our short adapter connects the 13-pin socket on the car to the 7-pin plug on the trailer. The adapter is usually required for old trailers or caravans. This electrical trailer adapter 13 is also made of sturdy black plastic. Our adapter also supports the protection against unintentional disconnection of the trailer adapter.
SHORT ADAPTER 15 TO 2 X 7-PIN
This short adapter ensures the connection of two 7-pin plugs. The one on the 24-volt lorry trailer with the 15-pin socket on the towing vehicle. Our trailer adapter is designed as a mini short adapter. It has a solid housing that is durable and waterproof.
