What are reversing lights and what are they used for?
The German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO) describe the function of a reversing light in a surprisingly clear and simple manner:
- A reversing light is a light that illuminates the road behind and, if necessary, next to the vehicle, and indicates to other road users that the vehicle is reversing or is about to reverse.
Reversing lights as defined by the StVZO are found on all motor vehicles and corresponding vehicle trailers. In cars and vans, the reversing lamp function is often integrated in the original taillight or LED taillight. This is all smaller vehicles really need.
Trucks require better illumination when reversing because they are much larger and need much more room to move. Our LED technology provides outstanding illumination. LEDs use less power and have a long service life. Our LED reversing lights require a 12 or 24 volt power supply. Because of their high light output, LED reversing lights can also be used as work lights.
Where are reversing lights permitted or required?
In Germany, according to the German Road Traffic Licensing Restrictions, motor vehicles and trailers must be equipped with one or two white reversing lights. Reversing lights are therefore mandatory. The reversing lamp(s) must be mounted on the vehicle at least 250 mm to 1,200 mm above the road surface. Reverse lights may only function when reverse gear is engaged, and the engine is running. They should not illuminate more than 10 m behind the vehicle. This prevents unnecessary glare at the rear end of the vehicle. The headlights must comply with ECE R23 and have a corresponding marking in the lens.
For trucks and other vehicles with a length of more than six metres, two additional rear-facing lights are permitted, in addition to two reversing lights at the rear. These lights can also be mounted on the side of the vehicle. For vehicles measuring less than six metres in length, the regulation with a maximum of two rearward-facing headlights applies.. Motorcycles, agricultural towing vehicles, forklift trucks and similar vehicles do not require reversing lights.
LED reverse lights for trucks
Reversing is a considerable challenge, especially for truck drivers. Restricted visibility to the rear and insufficient illumination of the rear of the vehicle are often the main causes of dangerous situations. Modern technology can effectively minimise this risk. Vehicles that are longer than six metres, such as trucks, can have up to four reversing lights. Using LED technology ensures optimum illumination. The powerful light from the LED reversing lights also warns people in the truck's area of movement.
LED reversing lights for cars, trailers and other vehicles
A maximum of two reversing lights are permitted for vehicles under six meters in length. But, thanks to our LED reversing lights, you can still benefit from wide and super-bright illumination of the road to the rear of your vehicle. Even with only two LED reversing lights, the LEDs in the reversing lights provide extremely bright light and make reversing safer. This also applies for LED reverse lights for trucks.
Reversing lights are easy to retrofit
Our LED reversing lights are easy to retrofit or install to replace a defective reversing light or as an additional reversing light. All LED reversing lights have a universal mounting that enables easy and durable installation. It is also easy to connect them to the vehicle’s electrical system using the existing cables. The spotlights can be operated with either12 or 24 volts.

Reversing light
(8)Reverse lights are an essential lighting component of a vehicle and significantly improve visibility when reversing. These powerful lamps are usually located at the rear of the vehicle and are activated when reverse gear is engaged. They signal to other road users and pedestrians that the vehicle is reversing. LED reversing lights also increase driver safety by improving visibility in the dark or in poor weather conditions. Our LED reverse lights have an “E” test mark in accordance with ECE R23 and are easy to retrofit.
